Understanding electrical outlets and how to install them is fairly straight forward.  You just follow the wiring that is already in the box.  Make sure to label your wires if in doubt.  Tapping power from an existing outlet is not hard to do either.  With a little drywall repair, you can easily have another fixture in an adjacent room in no time.

  1. Shut power off at the circuit panel.
  2. Remove outlet cover.
  3. Remove screws holding the outlet to the wall.
  4. Remove wires from the old outlet.
  5. Install the wires to the connections in the back of the new outlet.
  6. Secure ground screw.
  7. Re-install screws that hold the outlet in the wall.
  8. Replace the outlet cover.
